From Co-Creation to Impact:
How 2025 Shaped the STANDOUT Journey – and What Comes Next
After a year of co-creation and knowledge exchange, STANDOUT enters its most visible phase. In 2026, the focus shifts to sharing results, strengthening standards, and turning ideas into impact.
The STANDOUT project looks back on a year defined by collaboration, exchange, and steady progress. What began as shared exploration and co-creation has laid the groundwork for the project’s most impactful and final phase.
Throughout the year, partners from across Europe collaborated closely together to shape a common vision: cities where outdoor sports are accessible, inclusive, and part of everyday urban life. Regular co-creation meetings ensured continuity, while in-person knowledge exchanges in Viana do Castelo (Portugal) and Västernorrland (Sweden) brought theory into practice, connecting ideas with places, people, and experiences.
Highlights from 2025
In 2025, STANDOUT reached several important milestones, including the mid-term progress review, the first draft of the standards concept, the completion of social media trainings, and the initial knowledge exchange cycle, connecting research, practice, and municipal perspectives.
Together, these outcomes form a shared reference framework for the project’s final phase that reflects both local realities and European ambitions.
The year concluded with the finalisation of a comprehensive report exploring drivers, barriers, and good practice examples for fostering healthy and active lifestyles through outdoor sports in urban settings. This report serves as a key reference point for the last year of the project. Bringing together research insights and practical experience from different European contexts, the report will serve as an important reference for the last year of the project.
See You in 2026
With strong foundations in place, 2026 will focus on turning insight into impact. The coming year will be dedicated to consolidating the standards, strengthening dissemination, and opening the conversation beyond the project consortium.
STANDOUT will increasingly move into dialogue with a wider audience. The project will be represented at professional and sector-specific conferences across Europe, and webinars will take place in all partner countries. These events will provide an opportunity to share results, exchange experiences from the project, and meet people interested in shaping more outdoor-friendly cities.
The shared goal remains clear: to support European cities in becoming healthier, more inclusive, and more connected through outdoor sports.
