The SHARE 2.0 initiative was reformatted by the EU Sport Unit in September 2025 and its purpose is to organise and strengthen cooperation and knowledge exchange on key topics.

As such, there are 4 “Communities of Practice” within the initiative as follows:

  • Sports and Society
  • Green and Sustainable Sport
  • Health
  • Innovation

In December 2025 the EU opened nominations for Steering Group positions across all four Communities of Practice (CoP). This represented an opportunity for existing steering group members and any interested community members to step forward and contribute to the governance and strategic direction of the CoPs for the 2026–2027 period. Mike McClure was nominated by ENOS to be on the steering group and was subsequently asked by the European Commission to lead the steering group. When ENOS was created – one of the main aims was to represent and promote outdoor sports at a strategic level in Europe. Mike continues to represent the interests of our sector and promotes the role of outdoor sports in connecting people to nature. However, as lead for the overall sector, Mike works to ensure that all sporting organisations can be signed up to the Green Sport Manifesto and engaged in climate action.

The steering group set two key priorities for the work in 2026 as follows:

  1. Sustainable Financing of Sport Infrastructure.

In recognition that public authorities across the EU have the potential to tap into billions in EU funding for modernisation of public infrastructure to be more climate neutral through energy efficiency and this can include sports facilities. However, there is a lack of awareness and knowledge on how to access this funding. The SHARE initiative will seek to bridge this gap through capacity building events and information.

  1. Mainstreaming green sports.

The aim of this work stream is to help to embed environmental sustainability and associated actions into everyday governance, operational choices, and investment decisions across the sport sector, reinforcing the commitments within the Green Sport Manifesto.

The steering group were very enthused to ensure that the Green Sport Manifesto remains a high priority area and that we build on its implementation in the overall sector. ENOS has signed up to the manifesto and is actively looking at its implementation in the organisation but also how to support the wider outdoor sports sector in this essential work.

Finally if you want to get involved in any of the Communities of Practice – there is an open invitation to do so via an EU Survey here
