Our nature transcend national borders. From the Alps to the Atlantic coast, from Scandinavian forests to Mediterranean trails, Europe’s diverse landscapes have shaped and continue shaping the identities of its people for centuries. From the Nordic philosophy of friluftsliv to the Mediterranean culture of open-air living, outdoor sports are increasingly importany for citizens to (re)connect with nature, to build communities, and to find balance in their lives and creating a healthy and thriving society in harmony with the natural world.
Who We Are
ENOS is the European network advancing outdoor sports to generate social, environmental, and community benefits. We unite a diverse ecosystem of stakeholders — from local clubs to national federations, from environmental NGOs to research institutions — creating a platform where knowledge, practice, and policy converge.
We serve multiple audiences:
- Governance bodies – ministries, local authorities, Olympic committees, and other public institutions seeking evidence-based guidance to design policies that balance sport, health, environmental, and social goals.
- Outdoor sports organizations – associations, clubs, and NGOs promoting participation, social inclusion, and responsible practices.
- Environmental actors – protected areas, foundations, and agencies working to ensure outdoor sports are compatible with biodiversity and nature conservation.
- Research and education institutions – universities, training centers, and experts generating knowledge to guide practice and policy.
- Industry partners – tourism operators, outdoor education providers, and tech innovators enabling high-quality and sustainable outdoor experiences.
ENOS bridges these actors through:
- Intersectoral collaboration – connecting sports, environment, research, and governance to co-create strategies and solutions.
- Multi-scale coordination – linking local, regional, national, and European initiatives to maximize impact and coherence.
- Capacity-building and empowerment – providing tools, advisory support, and training to strengthen organizations’ ability to deliver inclusive, sustainable, and socially valuable outdoor sports.
- Evidence-based advocacy – translating research and practice into actionable insights, policy guidance, and resources that demonstrate the societal and environmental value of outdoor sports.
